Burns Banks and Braes comprises of ten love songs. Five of these were recorded using the traditional melodies normally associated with Burns, but the remaining five have been put to haunting new music by Ian Rae. The album insert also contains translations of the lesser known Scottish words of most of the songs recorded on the album
